The Beginning
It started with a frayed cable.
In the summer of 2022, Noah sat in a café in Paphos, Cyprus, watching the Mediterranean sun dance on the water. His MacBook was at 3%. The charging cable he'd bought just two months earlier—the third one that year—had given up. Exposed wires. Intermittent connection. Another piece of plastic destined for a landfill.
At the next table sat Marcus, a German engineer with the same problem. His phone lay dead beside an equally dead cable. They exchanged a look that needed no translation: Why does this keep happening?
That afternoon turned into an evening. That evening turned into a conversation that would change both their lives. They talked about the devices they loved—meticulously engineered technology that cost hundreds, sometimes thousands of euros. And then they talked about the accessories that connected those devices: cheap, disposable, forgettable.
